Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for performing effective rehabilitation in which patient's exercise effort is neurophysiologically connected with patient's muscle contraction of a paralyzed limb and brain plasticity is utilized, to thereby rebuilt a neural network.SOLUTION: A rehabilitation system comprises: a locomotor activity detection sensor 1 for detecting muscular locomotor activity; a peripheral nerve stimulation coil 2 for stimulating muscles or motor nerves to make the muscles contract; a peripheral magnetic stimulation current supply device 10 for supplying an electric current to the peripheral nerve stimulation coil 2; a brain stimulation coil 5 for stimulating a brain motor cortex; a cerebral magnetic stimulation current supply device 11 for supplying the electric current to the brain stimulation coil; and a magnetic stimulation controller 9 for magnetically stimulating muscles or motor nerves for making the muscles contract by a magnetic stimulation pulse generated from the peripheral nerve stimulation coil 2 using the exercise effort detected from the locomotor activity detection sensor 1 as a trigger, and then controlling the magnetic stimulation timing of respective stimulation coils 2, 5 so as to stimulate the brain motor cortex by the magnetic stimulation pulse generated from the brain stimulation coil 5.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
