Abstract:
PURPOSE:To recover metallic indium and also to produce an organic acid aq. soln. contg. high purity indium by forming an anode of metallic In and separating an electrolyzer by a diaphragm and utilizing an organic acid aq. soln. for the electrolyte of an anode side and utilizing the organic acid aq. soln. contg. In for the electrolyte of a cathode side and performing electrolysis. CONSTITUTION:An anode is formed of a pole of metallic In or a pole fitted therewith and a cathode is formed of Ti, etc. This electrolyzer is comparted by a diaphragm such as an anion exchange membrane. The aq. soln. of organic acid is utilized for the electrolyte of an anode side. The In-contg. aq. soln. of the same organic acid as the electrolyte of the anode side is utilized for the electrolyte of a cathode side. As the above-mentioned organic acid, carboxylic acid such as acetic acid is preferably utilized. Further, the electrolyte of the cathode side is desirably regulated to about 0-3.5pH. In this electrolyzer, electrolysis is performed at room temp. to about 60 deg.C at about 0.01-0.2A/cm<2> current density. Thereby metallic In is deposited on the cathode and also the anodic metal is dissolved in the anode side and the aq. soln. of organic acid contg. high purity In is produced. The cathode fitted with In obtained thereby is intactly utilized as the next anode. The aq. soln. of organic acid contg. In is utilized for production of indium oxide for a raw material of electroceramic.
