PURPOSE: To process at high speed in a paper processing apparatus of a copying machine or the like by making a mode wherein a sheet of paper stored in a pre storing part is moved in the processing direction and a mode wherein a sheet of paper is moved to the processing direction after it is once moved in the opposite direction to the processing direction.

CONSTITUTION: A sheet of paper L discharged from a processing part 5 is sent to a storing part 50 storing not processed papers. The side edges and rear end of the paper are regulated by a side edge regulating member 52 and a rear end regulating member 53, respectively. The papers are stored in the storing part 50 in the aligned state. At this time, a motor 5'7 is driven to preliminarily move and set the rear end regulating member 53 and paper L at a position confronting to both a punching device 70 and a stapler 80 by a moving means 62. As a result, the paper L is brought to a position where it can be punched and stapled. Both punching and stapling can be conducted at the same time. If stapling alone is required, the rear end regulating member 53 is moved right and the paper L is set to face only to the stapler 80.
