Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods of easily and more efficiently separating and purifying a substance made by fermentation, such as xylitol.SOLUTION: A biomass is saccharified in two steps and the substance made by fermentation, such as xylitol, is separated and purified from a fermented solution using at least two types of membranes to obtain a target substance. The separation and purification are performed by removing impurities, such as a colored substance and oligopeptides in a fermented solution by combining at least two types of membranes or by combining a nanofiltration membrane with a batch process with active carbon powders.SELECTED DRAWING: None
