Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject fibers good in spinning properties, capable of readily carrying out conversion into a nonwoven fabric and grafting and useful for the production, etc., of a separator for cells or batteries having high liquid sucking properties and the holding ability of an electrolyte by composing the fibers of a core material and a specific sheath material covering the core material. SOLUTION: The sheath-core conjugate type polyolefin-based fibers comprise a sheath material containing (A) a propylene-based polymer such as a propylene-butene-1 random copolymer and (B) a linear low-density polyethylene having 0.85-0.92 g/cm3 density and <3.0 ratio Mw/Mn of the weight-average molecular weight Mw to the number-average molecular weight Mn measured by a gel permeation chromatography such as a copolymer of ethylene and an α-olefin, e.g. butene-1 in the sheath-core conjugate type polyolefin-based fibers comprising a core material such as a polypropylene- based resin and the sheath material covering the core material. Further, the graft polymerization of a hydrophilic vinyl monomer such as acrylic acid onto the fibers of a nonwoven fabric comprising the sheath-core conjugate type polyolefin-based fibers is preferably carried out to prepare the grafted polyolefin-based nonwoven fabric.
