Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful as a material for silver-halide photosensitive materials. SOLUTION: This sultone compound of formula I (La1 is methylene; Lb1 and Lc1 is each methine; k1 is 2 or 3 provided that Lb1 and LC1 are unsubstituted methine), for example, a compound of formula II, is obtained from a compound of Lc4 >=C-(La4 lk1 -OH (La4 is methylene; Lc4 is methine; k1 is 2 or 3) as a starting material. Further, using this compound of formula I as a starting material, a quaternary salt compound of formula III (La2 is methylene; Lb2 and LC2 are each methine; L1 and L2 are each methine; V1 is H or a monovalent substituent; Z1 is an atomic group necessary for forming a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring; P1 is O or 1; M1 is a charge-equilibrium pair ions; m1 is 0-10). Using a compound of formula III as starting material, a methine compound of formula TV (La3 is methylene; Lb3 and Lc3 are each methine; k1 is 2 or 3; Q is methine or polymethine) is obtained. Thus a silver halide photosensitive material that has high sensitivity and storage stability, and cause less fog, is obtained.
