Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce a copolyester in good productivity at a low cost by melt- kneading a mixture of two specified polyesters on a melt kneader while recirculating the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: A molten polyethylene terephthalate produced on, for example, a continuous polymerizer 10 is metered with a gear pump 5a and fed to a single-or twin-screw melt kneader 6 through pipes 1 and 12. On the other hand, a molten polyethylene isophthalate produced on, for example, a batchwise polymerizer 11 is metered with a gear pump 5b and fed to the kneader 6 through pipes 2 and 12. The resulting mixture is reacted by melt kneading at 265-300°C for 10-60min on the kneader 6. The obtained mixture (copolyester) is discharged through a pipe 3 and metered with a gear pump 5c, and part of it is metered with a gear pump 5d and fed to the kneader 6 from a feed inlet 4 through a recirculation pipe 7. The copolyester obtained by the melt kneading is passed through a discharge pipe 8 and delivered through a discharge nozzle 9.
