To provide a monitoring technology for a superconducting coil, capable of easily monitoring, with a simple configuration, the state of a superconducting coil concerning abnormal heating such as thermal runaway.
A superconducting coil 10 is constituted by winding a superconducting wire formed from a superconducting oxide. The superconducting coil 10 is connected to a cooling part 15 of a GM freezer 14 through a heat transmission plate 12 and a flange 13. During operation of a superconducting energy storage device 1, a pair of heating value and temperature of the superconducting coil 10 is detected simultaneously, and the pair of detected heating value and temperature is compared with a monitor reference for monitoring heating state of the superconducting coil 10 based on the comparison result.
