Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the vehicle kind decision device which securely decide a vehicle such as a bicycle, a motor bicycle, and an automobile traveling on a road.
CONSTITUTION: A gantry 31 is installed straddling the road, and plural loop antennas 32 and laser radars 33 are arranged at proper places on the gantry 31, i.e., above the road surface. Further, the road surface is irradiated With light pulses 34 at constant intervals from the laser radars 33. When vehicles such as a bicycle 35, a motor bicycle 36 and an automobile 37 pass below the gantry 31, spark noises radio wave 38 generated by the automobile 35 and motor bicycle 36 are received by the loop antennas 32. Further, the return time of the light pulses 34 of the laser radars 33 varies owing to the passage of the vehicles, so the height and width of the vehicle are detected from the variation and the kind of the vehicle is decided according to whether or not there is the spark noise radio wave 38.
