Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a trimanganese tetraoxide composition that serves as a positive electrode material for lithium ion secondary batteries excellent in battery characteristics, particularly, charge/discharge cycle characteristics, and a simple method for manufacturing the same.SOLUTION: A trimanganese tetraoxide composition contains a metal compound on its surface. It is preferable that the metal compound is at least one compound selected from the group consisting of compounds of Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Ti, V Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, Zr, Mo, Ag, In, and Sn. Such trimanganese tetraoxide composition can be obtained by a manufacturing method which includes: a crystallization process in which trimanganese tetraoxide is crystallized, without passing through a manganese hydroxide, from an aqueous manganese salt solution that contains manganese ions; and a process for depositing a metal compound on the trimanganese tetraoxide.
