PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric sensor having a broad range that can be set by tuning.SOLUTION: In a photoelectric sensor, a signal corresponding to a photodetection amount from a light receiving element 2 is amplified by an amplifier 5, and compared with a threshold value in a comparison determination unit 6 to determine the presence or absence of a detection target. The gain of the amplifier 5 and the threshold value are tuned by a tuning unit 7. The tuning unit 7 includes a gain switching unit 71 for switching and setting the gain of the amplifier 5, a gain selection unit 72 for selecting a gain with which both outputs from the amplifier 5 obtained under the presence state of the detection target and under the absence state of the detection target are within a set range, and a threshold setting unit 73 for setting, as a threshold value for presence or absence determination, an intermediate value between the outputs from the amplifier 5 under the presence state of the detection target and under the absence state of the detection target which are obtained by using the selected gain.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
