Abstract:
The microwave smelting furnace has a raw material feed port in an upper part of a vertical furnace body and a furnace floor member that can move vertically and is provided in the furnace floor part. A microwave irradiation chamber that communicates with the interior of the vertical furnace body is provided around the periphery of the furnace bottom part. An inner surface of the microwave irradiation chamber is constituted by microwave-reflective copper or a copper alloy, or the like. Raw material is introduced into the microwave irradiation chamber from a gap between the lower side part of the vertical furnace body and the furnace floor member, and the raw material is efficiently irradiated with focused microwaves MW inside the microwave irradiation chamber. As a result, the iron ore is reduced by the carbon source in the heated raw material, producing molten pig iron, and the molten pig iron is taken off from a take-off opening. As a result, molten pig iron can be produced with high energy efficiency without using a blast furnace iron production method, and precious metals and the like can be recovered by "urban mining."
