To provide a vehicle capable of improving the purification performance of exhaust emission by using electricity generated by a braking force of a vehicle for raising a temperature of exhaust gas and activating an exhaust emission post-treatment device.
A heater 29 for heating exhaust gas is provided upstream of the exhaust emission post-treatment device 16 provided in an exhaust passage 12 of an engine 10 in the vehicle applying brake forces on drive wheels 26 of the vehicle by applying a load on a generator 24. A demand brake force is calculated from vehicle speed, engine speed, and a brake pedal step-on quantity (S12). It is determined whether the demand brake force is in an allowable range of the brake force by the generator 24 (S13). A brake is applied by an electric power generation quantity showing the demand brake force when it is in the allowable range, and the brake is applied by a predetermined electric power generation quantity and the shortage of the brake force is compensated by a vehicle brake 27 of each wheel 26 when it is out of the allowable range. Electric power generated by the generator 24 is sent to the heater 26.
