PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water treatment system and a water treatment method which enable formaldehyde to be efficiently removed from water containing the formaldehyde by causing formaldehyde and bisulfite ions to be efficiently reacted with each other.SOLUTION: The water treatment system is provided that comprises: a column 2 filled with a weakly basic anion-exchange resin; a first water to be treated flowing line L1 of which a downstream side is connected to one end side of the column 2; a chemical injection section 3 for supplying a bisulfite ion source to the first water to be treated flowing line L1; a second water to be treated flowing line L2 of which an upstream side is connected to the other end side of the column 2 and in which the water to be treated W1 having passed through the column 2 flows; and removal means 4 which is connected to the downstream side of the second water to be treated flowing line L2 and removes hydroxymethanesulfonic acid ions from the water to be treated W1 with a reverse osmotic membrane.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
