Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zirconium aluminide reinforced composite material synthesized by the reaction between zirconia ZrO2 particles and aluminum and exhibiting high speed superplasticity and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This zirconium aluminide reinforced composite material is composed of a zirconium aluminide/alumina/aluminum composite material or a zirconium aluminide/alumina composite material obtained in such a manner that zirconia (ZrO2) and aluminum and/or an aluminum alloy are uniformly mixed, this mixture is heated at 580 deg.C or more and is applied with pressure of 10 MPa more in a vacuum, in an inert gas or in an atmosphere to destroy an oxidized film on the surface of Al, the new face of Al is directly brought into contact with zirconia, the same is held to 580 deg.C or more to bring zirconia into reaction with aluminum by self-heat generating reaction, and the obtained composite material is moreover subjected to intensive working to form into a composite material imparted with superplastic characteristics, and the method for producing the same is provided.
