Title:
1,3-BUTYLENE GLYCOL OF HIGH PURITY AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2000/007969
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A 1,3-butylene glycol of high purity which is produced by providing a crude 1,3-butylene glycol which is a distillate from a distillation column for removing a high boiling point fraction from a reaction mixture obtained by reducing acetoaldol with hydrogen in a liquid phase, adding a base to the crude 1,3-butylene followed by heat-treating, distilling the resultant mixture to separate it to a residue composed of the base and a high boiling fraction and a distillate containing 1,3-butylene, and subjecting the distillate to further distillation to distill out a low boiling fraction. The 1,3-butylene glycol of high purity shows, in a HPLC analysis thereof under a specific condition, an absorbance of 0.02 or less on the measurement using a wave length of 210 nm with respect to each of the peaks appearing at relative retention times in the range of 4.0 to 5.5 based on 1.0 of the retention time of 1,3-butylene glycol, is free of odor and is reduced in the change with elapsed time.
