Abstract:
A 2-4 GHz GaAs passive double-balanced mixer chip and a design method therefor, relating to the field of monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MIMICs). The 2-4 GHz GaAs passive double-balanced mixer chip comprises RF_BALUN, LO_BALUN, Schottky diodes (D1, D2, D3, D4), and a matching element. Four identical diodes (D1, D2, D3, D4) are connected from beginning to end in series to form a ring, and are connected to two baluns (RF_BALUN, LO_BALUN) to achieve conversion from a single end to a differential. An output IF is leaded out from a central tap point of either of baluns (RF_BALUN, LO_BALUN) or a balun (RF_BALUN) at an RF side. The central point of a balun (LO_BALUN) at an LO side is grounded. Performance parameter optimization is assisted by means of simulation, and the operation efficiency, conversion gain, and port standing wave of a mixer are adjusted by adjusting the turns ratio of baluns and the size of diodes, and adding a matching element. An MIMIC passive double-balanced mixer chip has a smaller size, a higher integration level, more stable performance, and better uniformity than a conventional hybrid integrated circuit, and can simplify the system design and reduce the size of a module.
