Abstract:
A 2-aryl halide-1-naphthaldehyde compound represented by formula (1). R1 represents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, or a phenyl group. Ar represents a substituted or unsubstituted phenylene group or naphthylene group. X1 represents iodine, bromine or chlorine. This naphthaldehyde compound (1) is synthesized by reacting an aldimine compound (2) and an aromatic dihalide compound (3) while in the presence of a transition metal catalyst and chlorine, and then hydrolyzing the resulting product. The naphthaldehyde compound (1) is useful as a pharmaceutical and agrochemical intermediate, and as an electronic material intermediate.
