Abstract:
The object is to provide a process for efficiently producing a 4-(4-alkylcyclohexyl)benzaldehyde, 4-(4- cyclohexyl)benzaldehyde, a 4-(trans-4- alkylcyclohexyl)benzaldehyde or a (trans-4- alkylcyclohexyl)benzene which can be used in an electronic material such as a liquid crystal or a pharmaceutical or agrichemical, and others. Provided are: (1) a process for production of a 4-(4-alkylcyclohexyl)benzaldehyde or 4-(4-cyclohexyl)benzaldehyde by formylating a (4-alkylcyclohexyl)benzene or cyclohexylbenzene with carbon monooxide; (2) a process for production of a 4-(trans-4-alkylcyclohexyl)benzaldehyde by formylating a (4-alkylcyclohexyl)benzene having a molar cis/trans ratio of 0.3 or less with carbon monooxide; (3) a process for production of a (trans-4-alklcyclohexyl)benzene by isomerizing a cis/trans mixture of a (4-alkylcyclohexyl)benzene; and others, all of the processes being achieved in the presence of HF and BF3.
