Abstract:
A method of 4D printing with the laser beam is disclosed. The disclosed method selectively sinters/melts each layer of powder bed while selectively changing the material through the oxidation. The disclosed method performs laser sintering or melting with oxidizing the material for desired properties of the material article in oxygen environment either pressurized or un-pressurized. In the said method, laser power or laser energy density is used to control the oxidation within the material article in the oxygen environment. The fully oxidized state of the material while manufacturing into 3D geometries can also be achieved by the said method. This method can be used in several materials but not limited to ceramics, composites and semi-conductors where the chemical oxidation is desired along with the manufacturing of complex geometries for various applications from self-healing to tailored catalysis and electromagnetic properties.
