Abstract:
Disclosed is a new method for manufacturing 5-[2-(methylthio)ethoxy]pyrimidine-2-amine that is useful as a reagent or a starting material for producing medical drugs, agricultural chemicals, and industrial products. With the method, after amino groups of 2-amino-4-alkoxypyrimidine are alkanoylated, the substance is treated with anhydrous aluminum chloride and transformed into a 4-hydroxypyridine compound, and is further etherified by reacting with 2-haloethyl methyl sulfide in the presence of a base. The alkanoyl groups are then removed in order to obtain 5-[2-(methylthio)ethoxy]pyrimidine-2-amine.
