Title:
5-HYDROXYMETHYL-2-FURFURAL PRODUCTION METHOD
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2018/003295
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing: a 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural (5-HMF) production method which is suitable for the production of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural (5-HMF) on an industrial scale; and a novel catalyst composition for use in the synthesis of 5-HMF. According to the present invention, the followings are provided: a 5-HMF production method comprising carrying out a dehydration reaction of a carbohydrate that contains hexose as a constituent sugar or a derivative of the carbohydrate using activated carbon as a catalyst; and a catalyst composition for use in a reaction for producing 5-HMF from a carbohydrate that contains hexose as a constituent sugar through a dehydration reaction, wherein the catalyst composition contains activated carbon.
