Abstract:
Provided are: an ABA triblock polymer that is easy to synthesize, has an exceptional viscosity-controlling capability, and exceptional storage stability in an aqueous coating; and an aqueous coating composition that contains the ABA triblock polymer. The present invention provides an ABA triblock polymer characterized by comprising: an A block that is a polymer having as structural units a polymerizable unsaturated monomer (a) having a C4-24 alkyl group, a hydroxyl-group-containing polymerizable unsaturated monomer (b), and, as needed, a polymerizable unsaturated monomer (c) other than (a) and (b); and a B block that is a polymer having as structural units a carboxyl-group-containing polymerizable unsaturated monomer (d) and another polymerizable unsaturated monomer (e).
