Description:
DESCRIPTION ABDOMINAL BICYCLE, TYPES AND EQUIPMENT Field of the invention: This invention relates to an abdominal bicycle, and its types and equipment used to provide a better outlook for all the lower parts of the body, particularly the abdomen.

This bicycle is characterized in that a pedal with a butterfly, circle or any other suitable shape mounted at the end of the longer pedal arm in a perpendicular arrangement with respect to the main pedal axle is turned by the person in a position of lying flat on the back with two legs being stretched out as contacting each other. During this rotating, the body axis extending from the waist down to the sole of the foot forms a line with the axis of the part on the pedal of the abdominal bicycle where the foot is placed.

Background of the invention: Having lower parts of the body and the abdomen which do not have a smooth outlook is an important issue casting down the people from all levels in every place of the world. A wide variety of equipment are being manufactured to smoothen the outlook of these parts, they are advertised, marketed and used by the people. Unfortunately, even the least of the people using these equipment can not get the desired result. Because the abdominal muscles are hard to be affected by the exercise and no efficient exercise tool has been able to be produced until today.

Types of invention: The said abdominal bicycle has four types, which are named as type 1, type 2, type 3, type 4 (multifunctional type) and type 5 for reasons of easy distinguishing.

Type 1: This is the type without a tripod. The axis formed by the backbone during the turning of the pedal stays below the pedal axis.

Type 2: The type having a tripod. The axis of the backbone is at the same height and direction as the axis of the pedal axle, during the turning of the pedal.

Type 3 : It is the type where the axis of the backbone is well below the pedal axis during the turning.

Type 4 (multifunctional type): Bears the characteristics of both Type 1 and Type 2. It can be used as Type 1, Type 2, fitness bicycle with seat and the classical fitness bicycle by changing position with the shift mechanism. If desired, it can be made attain the ability to be used as Type 3 by adding extra pieces.

Type 5: This is the type having two pedals, both of which are placed on the same side. There is one single flywheel. The pedals are connected to this flywheel by means of the chain. The direction of pedal turning can be changed by a simple direction changing system to enable circular movements of the feet in the same or opposite direction.

The said abdominal bicycle equipment are the equipment with a butterfly, circle or any other suitable shape, which permit the use of the fitness bicycle as the abdominal bicycle when mounted on the familiar classical fitness bicycle, and these equipment have two different types. They are named as butterfly with sleeve and butterfly without sleeve for reasons of description, so that they will not be confused.

To avoid any confusion in the description, the part numbers are started after the end of the figure numbers, i. e. 21.

Design of Type 1 : Figure 1 shows the design of type 1, while Figures 2 and 3 illustrate the way in which it is used. Type 1 is formed from two main parts. These parts are referred to as the passive part and the active part. The passive part is also comprised of two parts, namely the rear base and the front base.

The rear base and lying piece: The lying piece no. 22 of the Type 1 where one will lay flat on the back with the upper part of the body when turning the pedal is made of plastic, light metal, plywood or a suitable material with dimensions of 50x90 cm. and softened by covering with a suitable covering material.

The rear lower base and laths (48) are formed from pipes with a diameter of about 2.54 cm or from the bars made of profile iron or other suitable material with the shape of rectangle or other geometrical shape, and they are affixed suitably to one another or below the lying piece or around it or any other suitable place.

The lying piece and the rear base can be produced by casting from a suitable material in the form of a single piece or multiple pieces or by any other suitable method. A pair of attaching piece (35) with the shape of a semi circle or other shape is affixed in the front section of the rear base.

The rear and the front base are fixed to each other with the screws (36) through the fastening holes (41) at the rear ends of the sledge laths (24) of the front base and at the front ends of the rear base. The same screws and holes are used to adjust the length of the abdominal bicycle according to the length of the user.

The connection between the rear and the front base can be provided by means of a sledge or any other way. The active part of the abdominal bicycle is affixed to the front ends of the laths forming the front base.

The structure of the active part is almost the same in all types. Figure 20 shows the structure of the active part. The active part is made of two pieces, namely the moving piece and the fixed piece which carries these moving part.

The fixed pieces of the active part and their designs are as follows: The foot (26) with the shape of two inverted U letters facing one another or with any other suitable shape is affixed to the front base laths at an angle of about 70 degrees (No. 45). The rear support piece of the pedal main axle bearing (43) is affixed downwards from the upper rear part of the feet. The part of this extending downwards provides support from the back to the pedal main axle bearing (42).

The upper part of this serves as seat pole housing (64) in Type 4. The seat pole (50) with the seat on it and the seat (sitting piece), which are affixed after adjusting the vertical height, are placed inside the housing of the seat pole.

The foot can also be made as a wider single foot, instead of two feet. The front support (21) of the pedal main axle bearing and the pedal main axle bearing (42) are affixed downwards from the upper front part of the foot.

Two straps (25) in the form of lath are affixed as facing one another from their two ends to the sections of the inverted U shaped foot closer on both sides to the lower part.

The ends of the common axle (89) of the flywheel (27) and the small gear (78) are attached with a screw to the middle section of the straps. The gear cover (39) has such a shape to cover the larger and the smaller gears, and it is attached with the strap to the seat pole housing and the pedal axle housing.

The moving pieces and their designs are as follows: The most important part of the invention providing the innovation is that the both feet are fastened to the foot sole basing piece to turn the pedal, which piece can have a butterfly, circle or any other shape. This piece is shortly named as butterfly to simplify the description.

The butterfly bearing (29) is affixed to the center of this. The bearing is affixed to one end of the butterfly axle (83), and the butterfly sleeve (28) is affixed to the other end of the axle at an angle of 90 degrees and they are affixed with butterfly axle nuts (79). The butterfly sleeve is attached to the pedal arm (31) with the conical arm screws (77) having butterfly nuts. The pedal arms bends by an angle of 90 degrees and enters the pedal bearing. It passes from here to the other side, and its part passing to the other side is called as pedal main axle (37). The butterfly sleeve and the pedal arm can also be produced as one single piece. In this case, the butterfly sleeve is attached directly to the pedal axle with a conical screw.

In Type 4, when the pedal arm passes to the other side, it bends again by an angle of 90 degrees in a direction opposite to the previous. The butterfly is not mounted at the lower end of this part. Instead, pedal anchorage (47) is attached. The larger

gear (88) is attached to the place very close to the bend of 90 degrees where the pedal arm enters the pedal axle housing.

The flywheel (27), which provides a stable turning, forms also the tightening system (40) together with the fixed belt located inside the canal above it and the thread-like spring and the tightening screw and serves as an adjustment function for turning the butterfly with the desired tightness degree. The motion taken from the butterfly or pedal anchorage is transferred to the small gear connected through the large gear (80) to the flywheel with a chain (80).

If desired, a type can be produced which will not affect the flywheel when the butterfly moves to one side or when it stops, and whose small moving nail will rotate the flywheel when it moves to the other side, i. e. permit the motion in one direction, where the flywheel is directly located on the main pedal axle. In this case, the large and small gear sets will not be required.

The upper half of the foot sole basing piece of the butterfly (91) is covered with a part of the material (snap fastener) made of two pieces providing partial firmness when these pieces are pressed on each other. The other part, in other words the counterpart of the same material is prepared together with abdominal bicycle with sufficient amount of a suitable adhesive as properly cut to be adhered to the front section of the user's shoe soles. To provide the ability for the abdominal bicycle to be used also with shoes without the said material (snap fastener), a butterfly shield is placed and affixed in the form of a projecting part around the part of the butterfly having this material (snap fastener).

Before starting to use the abdominal bicycle, the body is warmed up a little. The firmness of the pedal is adjusted. The user wears shoes with the said material (snap fastener) adhered on the front sole sections and lies flat on his/her back on the upper parts of the body. When lying, the cushion (55) can be used if desired.

The feet are stretched out flat and the feet soles are pressed on the flywheel. The body is moved forward and backward to attain the most comfortable turning position. The pedal is started to be turned by holding the handles. Several exercise sessions are performed by resting at certain time intervals.

Type 2: The lying piece (44), which is affixed on the feet having U shape (23) or any other suitable shape by means of 4 screws or a sufficient number of screws (38) resembles a tripod. Lying piece can be manufactured by casting from a suitable material as mono block or by any other suitable method. The feet (48) are affixed on the lower rear base.

The angle shown with no. 45 between active part and the fixed part is 90 degrees in this type. Other than this, it is completely similar to Type 1. Figure 4 shows the structure of the Type 2, and Figures 5 and 6 illustrate the ways in which it is used.

The user lies flat on the back on the lying piece. The feet are stretched out flat and the front ends of the feet are attached on the butterfly and the turning is started.

Type 3: Figure 7 shows the structure and the usage method of Type 3. The butterfly is located well above the lying piece. The lying piece is similar to Type 1. A pair of lifting feet (51) which provide that the active parts stay above are connected through the hole (54) with screw to a part close to the front end of the front base.

The active part foot pair made of single wider piece (52) are screwed through their lower ends to the end pair of the lifting feet located above, by means of the screw (53).

The fixing arm pair (49) has upper and lower sections. These two sections are screwed from their one end to the center of the lifting feet through the hole (57).

After Type 3 is laid on his side and adjusted to the desired angle and height, it is screwed to the suitable position adjuster fixing hole (66) on the active part feet by means of the upper mounting hole (58) located on the upper section of the fixing arm (49) and the butterfly screw. Likewise, it is screwed to the suitable position adjuster hole (92) located on the front base by means of the mounting hole (56) located on the lower end of the lower section of the fixing arm and the butterfly screw. The same procedure is repeated for the opposite side.

The height adjustment function can be greatly simplified by mounting a lifter system between the front base and the lifting foot and between the lifting foot and the active part, or by a gear or electric system.

There are safety extensions (90) on the front base near the screw no. 54 proceeding from the front and the sides to provide safe usage of the abdominal bicycle.

Its usage is similar to that of Type 1, but the legs are raised higher.

Type 4 (Multifunctional : Figure 8 shows the structure of the Type 4 when used as a fitness bicycle with seat, and the Figure 9 illustrates the way in which it is used. The lying apparatus, which comprises a single fixed piece in the other types, is formed from two pieces in this type. The sitting piece (60) and the sitting piece back support (59) are connected to each other with the joint (63). This section is changed with lying pieces for Types 1 and 2, and with sitting-leaning piece for the fitness bicycle with seat, by means of the holes (61) and the screws (62). This change can be also provided optionally by means of a simple sledge and gear system.

In accordance with the position of the sitting piece, the position of the active part can be adjusted to attain the above mentioned positions with a shift mechanism by rotating it horizontally by 90 degrees or shifting it so that it will form a vertical angle of 20 degrees.

Shifting from the Type 2 position to the fitness bicycle with seat position: The upper middle shifter horizontal movement rotating strap (82) located at the center of the shift mechanism and the entire active part connected thereof are rotated by 90 degrees about the central shifting screw (65) located at the center of the lower middle shifter horizontal movement strap (93) and then attached with the butterfly screws (94) on the middle straps. In this case, the butterfly with sleeve connected to the pedal or the pedal axle is dismounted, the pedal anchorage is mounted in its place and the sitting piece system is brought to the seat position as mentioned above. In this position, the abdominal bicycle can be used as the fitness bicycle with seat as shown in Figure 9.

Both the fitness bicycle with seat and Type 2 usage positions can be used as classical fitness bicycle by mounting the seat (50) and the seat pole and the classical fitness bicycle handle (46). Figure 10 illustrates the usage as classical fitness bicycle by means of the common Type 2-like usage.

Shifting from Type 2 position to the Type 1 position. Figure 20 shows the active shifting part, Figure 19 shows the shift mechanism providing the position change, and Figure 12 illustrates the usage of Type 4 as Type 1. Type 2 lying piece (44) is dismounted by removing its screws (38). The abdominal bicycle is laid on its side.

The butterfly screws, which attach the shifting vertical movement part at the Type 2 position, in the holes affixing the shifter vertically are removed. The upper opening apparatus (76) above the lower opening apparatus (68) is opened by about 20 degrees by turning it upwards around the screw (72) on the joint feet (70). The holes (81) on the upper end of the semi circular bent vertical bars (30) located in the front end of the front base are brought in a position to face holes (69) on the end of the upper opening apparatus (76) and they are screwed together using butterfly screws. In this case, the angle between the front base sledges and the active part is reduced from 90 degrees to 70 degrees to obtain the Type 1 position.

If desired, this operation can be greatly simplified by placing an equipment having a mini lifter structure between the middle sections of the laths located opposite of the joint feet (70) so that this equipment's arm will be turned to lift.

Figure 11 shows the Type 4 being used as Type 2, whose lying apparatus is connected like Type 2 by means of screws (38).

Butterfly without sleeve: The parts of the butterfly without sleeve (67) shown in Figure 13 designed to be mounted on the classical fitness bicycle and its structure are as follows: A butterfly shield (32) with extension extending in the front direction is affixed around the upper half of the sole basing piece in the form of a plate made of wood, hard plastic, metal or other suitable material having a shape of circle with a diameter of about 20-25 cm, butterfly or another suitable shape, and this shield prevents the shoes from sliding over the butterfly when used with shoes without

the said material (snap fastener). Snap fastener (34) is adhered to the upper front half of the sole basing piece, and it serves to fasten the snap fastener with its counterpart below the user's shoes during the usage.

The weight mounted on the lower part (84) provides that the part with snap fastener will always stay above. The fixed lower anchorage (73) located near the middle of the rear part of the butterfly without sleeve leans on the lower part of the pedal anchorage (47). The mobile upper anchorage (74) is placed on the pedal anchorage. The anchorage fixing butterfly screws (75) are passed through the holes on both anchorages and they are tightened.

Figure 17 shows the classical fitness bicycle with butterfly without sleeve mounted on. The classical fitness bicycle is seated on the lifter base (85) and the anchorage forming an angle of 20 degrees, which are placed on top of the other.

These three are fixed securely with the screws. The fixer base (86) affixed onto the lifter base both serves as the safety feature which prevents falling over and as the handle, edges of which is held during the usage.

The butterfly with sleeve: Figures 14 and 15 show the butterfly with sleeve (33) from different angles, Figure 16 illustrate the sleeve section of the butterfly with sleeve. The foot sole basing piece, the shield and the snap fastener are similar to those in the butterfly without sleeve. The inner ring of the butterfly bearing (29) affixed near the middle section or another suitable section of the sole basing piece from the outer ring is attached to the butterfly axle (83) by means of two butterfly axle nuts (79). The other end of the butterfly is affixed to the butterfly sleeve (28) by means of the other two nuts. The butterfly sleeve is affixed to the pedal arm (31) by means of conical butterfly sleeve screws (77). The pedal arm and the butterfly sleeve can be optionally produced in the form of a single piece. In this case, the butterfly with sleeve is screwed with conical screw by passing it through the housing in one end to the end of the pedal main axle having a shape other than the cylinder.

Abdominal bicycle can be picked by folding it on the rear base active part, after removing one of the fastening screws (36) in this section. Figure 18 shows the Type 4 when folded.
