Abstract:
In order to more optimally detect abnormalities in an internal combustion engine EGR system equipped with a high-pressure EGR device and a low-pressure EGR device, an allowable flow-rate ratio range, which is the range in which the degree of deterioration of the exhaust characteristics of the internal combustion engine falls within an allowable level, is calculated with regards to the EGR gas flow-rate ratio, which is the ratio of the amount of high-pressure EGR gas and the amount of low-pressure EGR gas (S103 to S107). In addition, the EGR system is assessed as abnormal in cases in which an estimate of the EGR gas flow-rate ratio deviates from said allowable flow-rate ratio range (S109 to S112).
