An abnormality detection device according to one embodiment of the present invention is an abnormality detection device for a potentiometer provided with: a resistance element; and a movable terminal that moves while being in contact with the resistance element. The abnormality detection device is provided with: a first application unit that applies a first voltage to one end of the resistance element for a first detection time period and that applies a second voltage to the one end of the resistance element for a second detection time period, which is a time period that continues from the first detection time period; a second application unit that applies the first voltage to the other end of the resistance element for the first detection time period and that applies the second voltage to the other end of the resistance element for the second time period; a voltage detection unit for detecting an output voltage from the movable terminal; and an abnormality detection unit that detects a contact failure of the movable terminal on the basis of the output voltage detected by the voltage detection unit when the voltages applied by the first application unit and the second application unit are switched.
