Abstract:
Abrasive cloth comprising composite cloth having a fiber base material and a polymer elastic body filled in the material, characterized in that the fiber base material (1) is composed of fiber bundles each formed by bundling 20-3000 very fine fibers, and (2) the fiber bundle's very fine fibers have an average diameter (D1) of 0.3-10 $g(m)m at a portion ranging from the center of a section perpendicular to the lengthwise direction of a bundle up to the 1/2-radius periphery thereof and an average diameter (D2) of very fine fibers existing in an outer peripheral portion ranging from the 1/2-radius periphery up to the outer periphery is 0.05-1 $g(m)m, a ratio D1/D2 being at least 1.5. The abrasive cloth is suitably used for substrate texture processing in producing a magnetic recording medium, especially a hard disk, permits high-precision surface finishing, and has an excellent strength.
