Abstract:

The present disclosure relates to an access control method for granting access to functions of a vehicle (11) by means of a visual authentication system (10), which comprises at least a mobile unit (18) and a camera unit (22). The authentication system (10) communicates with an in-vehicle unit (14). The mobile unit (18) gathers a current picture of a vehicle user (12) through the camera unit (22, S12). Based on this picture the mobile unit performs user verification (S14) based on visual person recognition. The mobile unit (18) outputs an authentication message to the in-vehicle unit (14) when or if user verification has been successful.
