Abstract:
An accessory mounting adapter (30) is provided for a trailer hitch assembly (10) that includes a receiver box (14). The accessory mounting adapter (30) includes a cross member (32). A mounting bar (34) is connected to the cross member (32) and allows the adapter (30) to be secured in the receiver box (14) of the trailer hitch assembly (10). A pair of accessory receivers (48) are connected to the cross member (32). At least one of the accessory receivers (48) has a first accessory mounting section (fig. 3a, 3b) for receiving a first type of accessory mounting post (P) and a second accessory mounting section (Fig. 4a, 4b) for receiving a second type of accessory mounting post (P'). This greatly increases the versatility of the adapter (30) to carry various accessories.
