Abstract:
Provided are an acoustic wave image generation device and a method by which it is possible to obtain an image having good visibility with respect to a needle. If an ultrasonic wave having an intensity distribution in mainly a first direction is transmitted to a specimen, an ultrasonic echo returns from the specimen. Phasing addition is performed on ultrasonic echo data that represents the ultrasonic echo, along virtual reception direction lines (53)-(55). As an ultrasonic oscillator that transmits ultrasonic waves (51) is updated, a plurality of first ultrasonic wave images (71)-(73) are obtained. The ultrasonic wave images (71)-(73) of various angles are obtained, and thus, when a needle pierces the specimen, an image with good visibility of the needle can be obtained.
