Title:
ACTIVE CENTERING APPARATUS WITH IMBEDDED SHEAR LOAD SENSOR AND ACTUATOR
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO1999026755
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
A cylindrical grinding machine has an active center apparatus (10) for sensing and correcting force level and vibrational frequencies. The active center apparatus (10) has embedded shear load sensors (40) and imbedded actuators (60). The sensor (40) provide real time grinding information and allow for a determination of undesirable force levels and vibration frequencies. The actuators (60) are a pair of piezoelectric stacks disposed on opposing sides of the center body. Because the sensors (40) and actuators (60) are imbedded, they do not interfere with the work space or machine components. The active center apparatus (10) can be easily retrofitted to existing grinding machines.
