An active material according to the present invention comprises: at least one element M selected from the group consisting of nickel, cobalt, manganese, and lithium; and an element X differing from the element M. The element X is at least one element selected from metals of groups 2 and 15 in period 2 of the periodic table, metals of groups 3, 11, and 13- 16 in period 4, metals of groups 1-3, 7-13, and 15-17 in period 5, metals of groups 1-3 and 7-17 in period 6, and metals of groups 1-17 in period 7.
