Abstract:
Disclosed are an active substance generation method and an active substance generation device, each of which utilizes, for example, titanium oxide (IV) having a halogen chemically bound thereto and containing an oxo acid as a photocatalyst. When the photocatalyst is irradiated with an ultraviolet ray by means of a light source, an active oxygen species such as hydrogen peroxide or a halogen oxide such as hypochlorous acid is generated on the photocatalyst, and an active substance can be released from the photocatalyst into open space by means of a fan. Upon the release of the active substance into open air, the active substance reacts with a malodorous substance floating in the open space or a microorganism (e.g., a bacterium) adhered on a solid surface, thereby exerting a deodorant activity or a microbiocidal activity.
