Abstract:
To optimize the performance of a device, such as a mobile telephone, that may be coupled to any of a variety of hands-free adapters, each characterized by a particular quality of performance, the device receives self-identifying information from the particular hands-free adapter to which it is coupled. The device then determines one or more settings as a function of the self-identifying information, and adjusts one or more components in accordance with the one or more settings. For example, such adjustments may include microphone gain settings, loudspeaker gain settings, and adjustments to acoustic echo canceler equipment.
