Abstract:
A light emitting diode controller (62) integrated circuit includes counter circuitry (79) having inputs coupled to a clock signal input pin (66), a pulse width modulated signal input pin (42), and a sense input pin (64), and has a count output (80) coupled to a gate drive signal output (40) to an external power transistor (18). The power transistor (18) is connected in series between a power lead (12), a sense resistor (16), and a light emitting diode (20, 22, 24). The sense input pin (64) is coupled to the series connection between the resistor (16) and the transistor (18). The counter circuitry (79) provides a Ton_delay equal to a Toff_delay of the power transistor (18). By counting up during a Ton_delay and down during a Toff_delay, the controller can be used with power transistors of unknown characteristics.
