Abstract:

An additive for lubricants containing an oil-soluble polymer (B) which bears at least one member (M) selected from the group consisting of Groups 6 to 15 metals of the fourth to seventh periods of the long-form periodic table in an amount of 0.1 to 100 atoms per molecule on the average and has a number- average molecular weight of 500 to 1,000,000; additive compositions for lubricants which each comprise the above additive and other additive and/or a diluent; lubricating oil compositions which each comprise the additive or the additive composition and a base oil and have contents of the polymer (A) of 0.01 to 30 % by weight based on the weight of the lubricating oil composition; and grease compositions which each comprise the additive or the additive composition and a base grease consisting of a base oil and a thickener. The additive is excellent in the solubility in a base oil, and lubricating oil compositions and grease compositions containing the additive are excellent in friction reducing effect and can attain saving in fuel when used as the lubricating oil composition for automobiles and so on.
