Title:
ADJUSTABLE SWIVELLING JOINT FOR AN EXCAVATOR OR THE LIKE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1991/001413
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
In operating an excavator it is useful to be able to change the direction of the accessory, such as the dipper ladle, by turning the accessory in the horizontal plane relative to the dipper arm. By providing an adjustable swivelling joint (4, 6) between dipper arm and accessory turning may be achieved without using any drive for the actual turning. The adjustable swivelling joint substantially comprises an inner ring (4) with transverse grooves (9) and an outer ring (5) arranged to match the inner ring (4), the outer ring being connected with a base plate (6) supporting a coupling device (10-14). On turning, the coupling device will release the inner ring so that it may be turned relative to the outer ring. The force required for the turning is provided by the excavator, which through its movement and with the ladle resting on a firm underlayer forces the ladle (13) with the ladle support (16) to be turned relative to the dipper arm (1). On setting a new position, said position is fixed when the power supply is interrupted, and a spring (12) will return the cone-shaped wedge (10) of the coupling device to the groove or the recess (9).
