Abstract:
Provided are an adsorbent and a method of processing radioactive waste liquid with which radioactive antimony, radioactive iodine, and radioactive ruthenium can be removed simply with a high removal efficiency. The adsorbent includes cerium hydroxide (IV) in the form of particles or powder having a particle size at least equal to 250 µm and at most equal to 1200 µm, and is capable of simultaneously adsorbing radioactive antimony, radioactive iodine and radioactive ruthenium. The method of processing a radioactive waste liquid includes causing a radioactive waste liquid containing radioactive antimony, radioactive iodine and radioactive ruthenium to pass through an adsorption tower filled with said adsorbent in a layer having a height of at least 10 cm and at most 300 cm, with a water-flow linear flow velocity (LV) at least equal to 1 m/h and at most equal to 40 m/h, and a space velocity (SV) at most equal to 200 h-1, to cause the radioactive antimony, radioactive iodine and radioactive ruthenium to be adsorbed by the adsorbent.
