Abstract:
Provided is an age-hardenable steel which has low hardness subsequent to hot forging, which through aging treatment endows mechanical components with the desired fatigue strength and yield strength, and which has high toughness subsequent to aging treatment. The steel comprises C: 0.09-0.20%, Si: 0.01-0.40%, Mn: 1.5-2.5%, S:0.001-0.045%, Cr: from more than 1.00 to 2.00%, Al: 0.001-0.060%, V: 0.22-0.55% and N: from more than 0.0080 to 0.0170%, the remainder being Fe and impurities. The area ratio of the bainite structure is 80% or greater. The effective V proportion (amount of V solid solution/total amount of V) is 0.9 or above. The amounts of P and Ti in the impurities are P: 0.03% or less and Ti: less than 0.005%. The steel has a chemical composition in which F1 described hereafter is 1.00 or less, and F2 described hereafter is 0.30 or more. F1 = C + 0.1 × Si + 0.2 × Mn + 0.15 × Cr + 0.35 × V F2 = -4.5 × C + Mn + Cr - 3.5 × V
