The present invention improves the security of an air compressor. This air compressor has a motor (16) to be driven by electric power supplied from a power source, a compressed-air generation unit for generating compressed air when the motor (16) is driven, a tank for storing the compressed air generated by the compressed-air generation unit, and an operation panel (37) for giving instructions to activate/stop the motor (16) and to switch a driving mode of the motor (16). Furthermore, the air compressor has a control board (32) for controlling the driving of the motor (16) in accordance with an operation signal from the operation panel (37) and for controlling the air-compression operation by the compressed-air generation unit, a read unit (39a) for reading authentication information, and an information control board (39) for performing authentication on the basis of the authentication information read by the read unit (39a), and the air compressor is structured such that the information control board (39) and the operation panel (37) are separately disposed from each other.
