Abstract:
In air-fuel ratio detection for: detecting the output of a downstream sensor (10), which is a limiting-current air-fuel ratio sensor arranged further downstream than a catalyst (6) on an exhaust route (4) of an internal combustion engine (2); and calculating the air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas downstream of the catalyst (6) in accordance with the output of the downstream sensor (10); the relationship between the output of the downstream sensor (10) and an air-fuel ratio calculated by a calculating means, when the output of the downstream sensor (10) is in a predetermined range that includes output corresponding to a theoretical air-fuel ratio, is shifted more to the rich side than the correspondence relationship between the air-fuel ratio and the output of an upstream sensor (10), which is a similar sensor to the downstream sensor (10), arranged further upstream than the catalyst on the exhaust route (4) of the internal combustion engine (2).
