Abstract:
This air intake device (2) for an internal combustion engine (1) has a water discharge passage (60) extending to an air intake port (10) from a bottom surface (32a) of a control valve housing section (32) arranged recessed into a housing passage (30) constituting part of an air intake passage. The water discharge passage (60) is formed independently from the air intake passage and comprises: a water collection groove (62) arranged recessed into the bottom surface (32a); a water discharge hole (64) formed penetrating a cover (28) of the control valve housing (20); and a water discharge hole (69) formed penetrating a flange section (56) of an insert (24) inserted in the air intake port (10). The downstream end of the water discharge hole (69) is connected to a space (70) defined between an air intake port inner wall surface (10a) and an insert tubular section (52). Moisture content in the intake air drips down to the bottom surface (32a) and collects inside the water collection groove (62), flows through the water discharge holes (64, 69) and the space (70) to the air intake port (10), and is sucked into a combustion chamber (8) together with the main flow of intake air.
