Air is supplied to and discharged from each of air cells through three systems independent of one another, every third system being the same system. A control unit causes each of the air cells to alternately expand and contract in sequence in such a manner as to, with respect to the air cells, increase and decrease the pressure of air of the air cell of the first system, thereafter increase and decrease the pressure of air of the air cell of the next second system, and thereafter increase and decrease the pressure of air of the air cell of the third system. When the back raising angle of a back bottom reaches a predetermined angle or more, the pressure of the air cell the pressure of which has dropped is increased at this point of time to put the air cell in an expansion mode similarly to the other air cells, and thereafter while the back bottom is raised, control of alternate expansion and contraction of each of the systems is repeated at shorter intervals than under normal control. Consequently, it becomes possible to prevent the contraction in a bed longitudinal direction of an air mattress, prevent slippage of a bed user on a bed, and further prevent a bedsore of the bed user.
