Abstract:
An alcohol derivative represented by general formula [1], an intermediate for producing the same, and a renin-inhibiting composition containing the same (wherein A represents (a) or (b); W represents (c), (d), (e), etc.; X represents -CO- or -SO2-; Y represents -CH2-, -O- or -NR25-; R1 represents aralkyl which may be substituted by lower alkoxy; R2 represents hydrogen or lower alkyl; R3 represents -(CH2)d-SR26 or (f); R4 represents lower alkyl, lower-alkoxy-substituted lower alkyl, optionally lower-alkoxy-substituted benzyl, -(CH2)g-O-(CH2)h-O-R29 or -CH2-CH=C(R30)(R31); and R5 represents lower alkyl). The compound [1] has a potent inhibitory activity against renin and a persistent hypotensive effect by oral administration, thus being useful as a hypotensive and a heart failure remedy.
