Abstract:
An alkaki dry cell includes a cathode, an anode, and an alkaline electrolyte. The anode includes an anode active material that contains zinc and a terephthalic acid compound. The terephthalic acid compound is terephthalic acid having an electron-withdrawing substituent or a salt thereof. The electron-withdrawing substituent is at least one selected from the group consisting of, for example, Br, F, and Cl. The terephthalic acid compound preferably contains terephthalic acid having one electron-withdrawing substituent or a salt thereof.
