Title:
ALUMINA POROUS BODY AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SAME
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2013/187182
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Provided are: an alumina porous body having comparatively high strength even when fired at a comparatively low temperature, and having comparatively high porosity and comparatively large pore diameter; and a method for manufacturing the alumina porous body. Aggregate alumina particles (16) are bonded to each other by Y2Si2O7 (yttrium silicate), which is a compound (22) synthetized from mullite or kaolinite, which is a Si compound (18), and yttria, which is a rare-earth oxide (20). Therefore, even in a case when alumina particles (16) having a relatively large particle size, for example, within a range of 15-50 µm, are sintered at a relatively low temperature, for example, a firing temperature of 1450°C, the alumina particles (16) are bonded using Y2Si2O7, obtaining a good bonding strength, and therefore an alumina porous body (10) can be obtained having relatively high average radial crushing strength (MPa), relatively high porosity (%), and relatively large average pore diameter (µm) even when fired at a relatively low temperature.
