An aluminum alloy substrate for magnetic disks, which is characterized in that the product of the loss factor and the plate thickness of the substrate is 0.7 × 10-3 or more; a method for producing this aluminum alloy substrate for magnetic disks; and a magnetic disk which is characterized in that an electroless Ni-P plating layer and a magnetic material layer disposed thereon are provided on the surface of this aluminum alloy substrate for magnetic disks.
