Title:
ALUMINUM-BASED ALLOY BEARING
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1981/002025
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
An aluminum alloy containing 2.5 to 25 wt.% tin, 0.5 to 8 wt.% zinc, 1 to 7 wt.% of at least one element selected from the group consisting of silicon, chromium, manganese, nickel, iron, zirconium, molybdenum, cobalt, tungsten, titanium, antimony, niobium, vanadium, cerium, barium, and calcium, and the balance substantially aluminum. The 1 to 7 wt.% silicon or the like may be replaced by 0.1 to 1 wt.% (1 wt.% exclusive) chromium. This alloy eliminates the defects of deterioration of high temperature hardness and fatigue resistance with conventional alloys when formed into a bearing by pressure-welding a tin-containing aluminum alloy onto backing steel, due to coarsening of aluminum crystal particles and tin precipitates in the alloy structure. This may be used as a bearing in the crankshaft of an automobile.
