Abstract:
The present invention provides an anisotropic scattering film that, as a result of the presence of a plurality of regions in which a liquid crystal material is uniaxially oriented in a horizontal direction and a plurality of regions in which the liquid crystal material is oriented in a vertical direction, has excellent uniformity in the light scattering ability in the film surface. At the boundary between the regions of uniaxial, horizontal orientation and the regions of vertical orientation, light oscillating parallel to the slow axis (long axis direction of the liquid crystal molecules) of the regions of uniaxial, horizontal orientation is scattered due to the difference in the refractive indexes, while light oscillating perpendicular to the slow axis of the regions of uniaxial, horizontal orientation is not scattered, as there is no difference in the refractive indexes. The anisotropic scattering film of the present invention achieves the function of an anisotropic scattering film as a result of such action.
