The present invention relates to an anode active material for a lithium secondary battery, a preparation method thereof, and a lithium secondary battery containing the same. The anode active material for a lithium secondary battery of the present invention comprises: a core portion of a carbon material; and a shell portion which is formed outside the core portion of a carbon material, wherein the shell portion is characterized by comprising a plurality of spinel type lithium titanium oxide particles which are adhered to the outer surface of the core portion of a carbon material, and a plurality of group four or thirteen metal oxide particles filled in the pore formed by the carbon material and the spinel type lithium titanium oxide particles. The anode active material for a lithium secondary battery of the present invention is improved in conductivity and high output density by including the metal oxide shell portion, thereby providing excellent electrical characteristics. In addition, a lithium secondary battery using the anode active material for a lithium secondary battery of the present invention can sufficiently ensure safety.
